Just trying to get a better understanding of things here, since information on the topic is hard to find, for basis to decide whether I should look more into proper properties of suppressed weapons using full-power ammunition. Mods are here to make differences though, and I'm curious first and foremost: During what circumstances would subsonic ammunition be used by a soldier with a weapon capable of firing full-power ammunition through its suppressor? When storming buildings to decrease the disorienting noise? For 'absolutely-can't-get-noticed'-missions? For jungle warfare where fighting ranges are so short it's irrelevant if you use subsonic or not? It is fairly reasonable from a game balance perspective I guess, seeing the Russians use subsonic ammunition for their AKS-74UBN and its PBS-4 suppressor. In fact suppressors increase accuracy and they increase muzzle velocity, however with the two main issues being a shifted zero due to altered center of mass for the weapon, as well as making it more front-/barrel-heavy, and increased malfuntion rate due to higher gas pressure.Īt the moment however I'm forced to choose between 900m/s loud and highly visible shots, or 320m/s silent and invisible shots. However as I understand it at least M4A1s, and especially sniper rifles (not that we have suppressed sniper rifles other than the KSVK in vanilla ArmA2, and that gun works as it should since it's a built in one, but just making clear) are usually NOT used with subsonic ammunition unless necessary since it has quite terrible performance, and absolute silence isn't as necessary as just not letting the target know where you fire from, or not realize shots are being fired until you have shot several times. It doesn't matter if I use a suppressed weapon or not as long as I have the right ammunition, since all detection values for muzzle flash and sound bang are defined in the ammunition. I went with the Ghost Colt smg block for $65 or so.I've time and again got irritated on the fact that there's no 'in-between' for using a suppressor or not in ArmA2. But with MEAN arms now producing the mag conversions its gotten cheaper. Only downsides is recoil in a blow back gun and mags. All 9mm suppressors will work dont have to worry about shooting a supper thru a sub only can. One can get 147gr HP fairly cheap and will be more than good enough for defense or shooting small game like in my case. I was reloading so I could save a little money but still the venture was just too costly and time consuming for my needs.Ī 9MM AR suppressed will sound far better than a 300blk and will cost a fraction to shoot. I then started down the road of hunting round and tried some machined expanding bullets while they did work and shot ok at best at 90 cents a shot just wasnt worth it. And with a DI gun your looking at a whole new variable with the gas settings. I searched high and low for cheap 300blk projectiles and tried a few they would either lead up my suppressor (coated bullets) or shot like crap. I was trying to satisfy all those needs with one gun a 300blk while it can do all of the above the cost and headache to get there is very high. I decided to go with the 9mm SBR for plinking and shooting small pest coons, opossums, skunks etc and for larger game hunting like deer and hogs go with a 6.5 grendel. Its concept is sound but found its juice wasn't worth the squeeze for me. Its a blow back gun but looking hard at going to a guard bolt and barrel and dumping the current setup to get that extra little bit of suppression.ģ00blk is a cool and weird little round. Ended up building a dedicated 9mm SBR with a can nested under the rail. I was going to build a 300blk AR after I sold my RAR300blk and decided against it. If op is looking for the most quiet AR then I would go with 22lr or 9mm Guard.
